Trooper Laid to Rest After Deadly Accident

6-16-04- Law enforcement officers in Lamar County are mourning the loss of one of their own, after an off-duty DPS trooper was killed in a five car pile-up on Interstate 30 Sunday.

Trooper Stanley Avery of Paris was buried today. He and his son Jake were killed when their SUV was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. Another man and his son were riding with the Averys – they were also killed, along with four other people.

The 35-year-old was on his way from a baseball game with his son at the time. His friends in law enforcement say his job and his family were the most important things in his life.
