ARDMORE -- Oklahoma is a state that prides itself on its college football teams, but has never had a professional team to call its own. Now there's a new team in Ardmore that hopes to become Oklahoma's first NFL team. Dara Downs reports.

The Super Bowl brings a close to the NFL season, but it's not the end for all professional football. The Ardmore Extreme say they have big dreams for their team and for the community.

You could feel the excitement as the Ardmore Extreme took the field for their first practice, and Head Coach Stan Landers says it's just the beginning.

"Ardmore needed something here bigger than what they've got. I wanted to bring a professional team here. It's our goal to be an NFL team in ten years," said Landers.

The Ardmore Extreme are part of the Minor Professional Football League based out of Texas. They're currently working on a deal with Ardmore High School and hope to use Noble Stadium to play their home games. The Extreme didn't become an official professional team until this week, but Quarterback Tredell Harris says he's already seeing lots of support.

"Everybody in the community has been great. They're coming up to me and asking, 'Are you playing for the Extreme? We're coming out to support you and we want to travel with you guys.' So that's great for us," Harris said.

The team currently has 18 players, ranging from straight out of high school to former NFL pros. Although his team maybe new, Harris says he has confidence that they can make their NFL dream a reality.

"So far I think we have a good chance to do some good things this year. And as we grow, it's going to be even better," Harris said.

They all came to Ardmore to play football, but Assistant General Manager Eric Goucher says he hopes the Extreme can bring more to the city than just the sport.

"There's more important things than football. I think that through the dedication and discipline that we learn, if we can carry that out to the community, it will show to the youth. They are more people watching us than we know," Goucher said.

The Extreme will wrap up their tryouts on Sunday, and plan to sign the selected players next week.
