SHERMAN TX--More than 6 inches of snow has fallen in Sherman in the last 24 hours, and to beat those winter blues, some folks are taking part in one of America's greatest pastimes, Shopping.
"It has been picking up throughout the day, folks are feeling safer about the roads so they are out and are really doing some shopping now," said Best Buy manager, Alison Hearrell
Despite the snow, the parking lot in front of Best Buy in Sherman is busy.
With so many schools out for the day, many folks are looking to cure their cabin fever by seeing what the stores at the Town Center have to offer.
"Maybe they are checking into that new T.V. They wanted for Christmas but didn't get, or they are checking into a new computer, there are lots of things you can do at Best Buy," said Hearrell.
Whether browsing for a movie, or shopping for cell phones, the store was packed with customers looking to get out of the house, but stay clear of the weather.
The snow wasn't a boost for everyone though.
At Home Depot, snow on the ground means many contractors are taking the day off.
"They may be doing odds and ends jobs, but usually when the snow is on the ground we don't have large orders, we don't have things like that on a day like today," said Store Manager Mike Alexander.
But it's not all bad news.
Alexander says, if you've been thinking about starting a project, today might be the day.
The lack of commercial customers means more sales associates are available to help the do it yourselfer.
"Today is a great day, you can get very personalized service, there is a high ratio of orange vests to customers than on other days," said Alexander.
While some businesses were winners and others losers due to all this snow, perhaps the biggest impact is instead of a three day weekend for presidents day, many people are getting four.
