ADA, OK - An Ada woman remains in custody for allegedly murdering her own father. Ada police say the investigation is still ongoing, but as Dara Downs reports, neighbors say this wasn't the first time the woman had tried to harm her father.
Neighbors say 34-year-old Marla Moxley and her father moved into this house on 800 East 14th street a little over a year ago, and say police had been to the home before for to a domestic dispute between the two, but neighbors say they knew something was terribly wrong when Marla came to their door saying her dad needed help.
"The suspect in this incident actually came over to the front door and knocked and apparently was a little distraught and requested that the neighbor call 911," Officer Mark Bratcher of the Ada Police Department says.
When police arrived they found Samuel Moxley laying on the floor not breathing. Mr. Moxley was taken to Valley View Hospital in Adam where he later died.
According to the police report, Marla Moxley claimed to have accidentally pulled a tracheotomy tube that helped her father breath out of his throat.
"Allegedly the suspect during an altercation removed that tube from the victim and that could have contributed to the man's death," Bratcher said.
Police say Moxley and her father were the only two in the house, and they have no other suspects.
Bratcher says the news of a homicide close to home is always hard to hear.
"No matter where you live, I don't think it matters where you call home, you know anytime there's a person who is mortally injured, it's a terrible situation."
Ada Police investigators say the investigation is still ongoing, and they expect to have the State Medical Examiner's report later this week. The Pontotoc County District Attorney says he too is waiting for more reports before filing charges against Moxley.
