Grayson County, TX -- Area boy scouts were out again today, collecting items for their annual "Scouting for Food" event.

Troop 611 out of Denison was one of several local troops collecting bags of canned food.

The Boy Scouts are part of the Texoma Valley District, which includes portions of Bryan County. As a whole, the district collected nearly 16,000 cans of food last year. Scouts say donations seem to be down this year, but the need is still there.

"It's important for us to do this because I mean you're helping people who have little or nothing. And it's just good to give back to the community," Trevor Hawley of Troop 611 explained.

All the food collected by troop 611 today with go to the Trinity Methodist Church food pantry, and stay within the local community.
