SHERMAN, TX—The week of February 21-27, 2010 is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Texas. Grayson County Emergency Management Director, Sarah Somers, says one step residents can take to be prepared for severe weather is to sign up for CodeRED in Grayson County.
As of February 22, 2010, there are 52, 423 phone numbers registered with the free service. CodeRED Works by notifying residents via telephone if there is a weather warning in their area. Somers says most that have landlines are already registered through a database, but if you haven't checked, you may want to see if your number is registered. If you use a cell phone it will not be automatically registered.
Somers advices residents to save the two numbers CodeRED contacts residents from so that you can recognize them when you get the call and you will know to answer.
CodeRED Weather warn is 1-800-566-9780.
Local CodeRED number is 1-866-419-5000...
