DURANT, OK - The City of Durant formally broke ground Monday on a new Library and Community Center.
The new building is going up nearly cost-free to Durant residents, thanks to donated land and a $7.9 million grant from the Donald Reynolds Foundation.
Construction is expected to take about a year, and Mayor Jerry Tomlinson says this project has been more than a decade in the making..
"This started about 15 years ago. I am exited for the City of Durant. This is a dream come true," Tomlinson said.
There is still more expansion to come in Durant. The city is scheduled to break ground Tuesday on a new airport terminal.
