No Tolerance for Fireworks Violations

6-25-04 - Sherman and other area cities are cracking down on fireworks within city limits this holiday season. Today, First News rode along with Sherman's Fire Marshal, and most people we questioned didn't understand the full extent of fireworks regulations.

The law is clear - it's illegal to even possess fireworks inside most city limits. That means customers who buy them outside the city and then bring them to their home are in violation of the law. Sherman also requires fireworks not be set off within 5,000 feet of city limits.

This summer, they're enforcing a no tolerance policy - which could land violators a hefty fine, in some cases us to $1,000.

4,000 children are injured every year from fireworks accidents - the most common injury was from a sparkler.
