SHERMAN TX--On a cold wet nasty dreary day, one man is running the roads of Texoma, traveling from coast to coast for a good cause.
Bruce Johnson, a roofing contractor, has what so many long for; time.
"You just have 8 hours a day to think while you are on the road, most people don't have that, but there is nothing else to do but think while you are on the road," said Johnson.
Johnson is running from coast to coast to help raise money for the Community Crisis Center in Elgin Illinois. He says he has a pretty good idea how long this trip will take, since this isn't his fist time to traverse the nation.
"I think it will take about the same time as last time, about 105 days, running 27 miles a day," said Johnson.
That's running a little more than a marathon, everyday, for three and a half months.
Dick Anderson's sister is the Director of the Crisis Center that Johnson is raising money for. He drove up from Denton to meet the man who is running 2649 miles for a good cause.
"In weather like this he is still going, and going strong it is really a sight to see," said Anderson.
Johnson he says he enjoys running and the fact that he can help those who need it most in his home town just makes it all the better.
"Homeless people are homeless for a lot of reasons and sometimes you just need a hand up to become a productive citizen again," said Johnson.
Johnson says he will spend the night in Gainesville tonight and then be back at it on the morning, and he says once he is done with this trip across the country, he is going to do it again.
