Plainview Schools makes final push for bond election
ARDMORE, OKLA -- As many residents prepare for election day, Plainview teachers and administrators are making a finally push for Tuesday's bond election. Shelby Levins reports.

ARDMORE, OKLA -- Before a bond election, administrators often send students home with information about the propositions and reminders to get out the vote. But Monday night, Plainview teachers and administrators are doing some additional work – they’re calling Plainview supporters to remind them to get out and vote.
Barbara Crissy is one of a handful of dedicated teachers, phoning Plainview area residents, reminding them of Tuesday's nearly $1 million bond election. As a current tutor and retired teacher of 30 years, Crissy believes students deserve the best.
"I think we've had a nice place to teach for the past 30 years and I still care about the children who are coming through right now and I still want them to have a lovely place,” Crissy said.
If passed by voters, the $975,000 bond would fund facility repairs, outfit the Intermediate School with smart boards similar to the ones in the Elementary School, and raise the security fence around the Primary School playground.
"We really want to be sure that we have fence that the 4 and 5 year olds cannot leap over, or people could not lure a kid over,” Interim Plainview Superintendent Julie Altom said.
Altom says while the bond focuses on physical needs and technology updates, it's about keeping students safe and maintaining Plainview’s competitive edge - and it won't cost taxpayers.
"That is the beauty of this bond election - it would not raise taxes for any of our patrons,” Altom said.
Altom says if this new bond passes, it will roll onto the books as the old bonds roll off, keeping property tax rates exactly the same.
Crissy says the improvements are important to Plainview's future, that's why she's volunteered her Monday night to man the phones.
