Future of Mental Health Facility in Question

7-6-04 - The Arbuckle Memorial Hospital is dealing with financial problems that could impact its mental health unit. The 15-bed facility at the hospital in Sulphur is one of only three in the state of Oklahoma, and is where law enforcement in an 11 county area turn to when they have an inmate with mental issues.

But state funding is limited and doesn't meet the actual cost of operation. In fact, over the past year, the hospital has been forced to siphon off funding from a one cent sales tax. The hospital board will meet Wednesday to discuss the future of the psychiatric facility.
