(Anchorage, Alaska-AP) -- Three US Senate candidates say that if they're elected, they'll try to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling and oil development.
Tony Knowles of Anchorage, Alaska; Democratic US Representative
Brad Carson of Oklahoma; and US Representative Chris John of
Louisiana spoke at a news conference Thursday.
Knowles, a Democrat and former Alaska governor, says if elected
he would try to change the tone of the discussion in Washington
about opening the wildlife refuge to drilling.
Knowles is seeking the Democratic nomination, and hopes to take
on Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski in the November election.
Carson leads a group of five Democratic candidates in the July
27th primary.
John faces the Louisiana state treasurer and another congressman
in his primary race.
