DENISON, TX - The old Texoma Medical Center hospital building now sits empty and unused after the move. And the task for TMC and Denison leaders is to find a new buyer for the building. Maddie Garrett has more on plans for the old TMC.

Jim Tygart volunteers his time at the Denison Development Alliance sending out thousands of letters and brochures, and making calls to hopefully sell the old TMC hospital.

"Progress is it's time to contact the clients, the potential clients for the building and that's what we're doing,” said Tygart.

Several years ago, before TMC even started planning the big move, they were also thinking about what would become of the old facility.

"The last thing we wanted to do was leave an empty building that over time would fall into disrepair, it's pretty expensive to maintain even an empty building,” said Dr. Mackey Watkins, TMC’s CEO.

So in order to fill the building with a new entity and new jobs, the Alliance is hitting the marketing campaign hard, with a fairly reasonable asking price of $15 million.

"Is it going to be tough? Absolutely. But we're dedicated in trying to find that buyer,” said Tygart. “If I didn’t believe it could be sold, I probably wouldn’t be here.”

Because the building is equipped for healthcare, Tygart said there are limitations on its use.

"We looked at the building and we said what does the building give us?"

The hospital building does offer plenty of water and gas pipes throughout, as well as medical air and the highest quality of electricity with emergency generators.

Stygart and Watkins said they are looking into other healthcare entities, such as outpatient care, nursing homes, research labs and even pharmaceutical companies. But explained because the Department of Veterans Affairs is cutting back, it will not become a new VA hospital.

"We're very optimistic and hopefully with the thousands of letters and things they send out that you know it'll strike the interest of someone and we'll get some activity,” said Watkins.

He said if it's not sold within a couple of years, that’s when they'll start looking at other options.
