DENISON, TX--A local non-profit organization is giving back to the community by helping those in need improve their homes. It's called “Project Crosswalk.”
On Tuesday, volunteers from Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman volunteered with the Project Crosswalk program at a home on Fannin Street in Denison. The volunteers were there to make improvements to them home, which is in bad condition.
This home belongs to Dorothy Smith. Smith is 67 years old and was recently laid off from her job. She says the city has issued her several citations to bring her home up to code, but she hasn't been able to because she doesn't have enough money. The home is in such bad condition that she has been living in a detached garage and that’s why Project Crosswalk stepped in to help.
Project Crosswalk representatives say it will take about $1,200 worth of materials to fix up Smith's home.
