Tires Pose West Nile Threat in Bonham

7-21-04 - Growing concerns of mosquitoes this summer has one local city taking action and demanding that some businesses clean up their acts.

First News learned of a problem area in Bonham on Wednesday, where old tires were stacked outside a towing company, just 100 feet from the Bonham Nursing Center. The tires have been a breeding ground place for mosquitoes, which one employee says are infiltrating the nursing center.

City officials say its a common problem this time of the year, so they're sending several tire businesses notices that give them 10 days to get rid of the tires. An employee of the towing company told First News they are aware of this problem and are already trying to fix it. Last week they hauled off two loads of tires and will haul off two more by the end of this week.
