7-23-04 - Recycling is coming to Van Alstyne schools, and they have an 8-year-old girl to thank for it.

Hanna Greer is going into the 8th grade, but last April, she made a decision sparked by Earth Day – her school needed to recycle. It wasn’t a new idea in Van Alstyne, but so far adults hadn’t had much luck initiating a program.

That’s where Hanna comes in. With the help of her mom, she went to area businesses and the city government. With assistance from Keep Van Alstyne Beautiful, the council and school board accepted Hanna’s proposal. Beginning in August, all four VA school will now recycle.

Businesses Weyerhauser and Mother Nature both donated recycling bins.
