Lawsuits Begin in Deadly Train Collision

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A brake man who survived the fiery
head-on collision of two freight trains in North Texas has sued
Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Ronald Richardson of Arlington is seeking nearly two million
dollars for injuries he suffered in the crash. He was hurt in the May 19th crash that killed an engineer and hurt three others in the collision near Gunter, about 50 miles north of Dallas.

Richardson was riding on a northbound train that was hit head-on
when a southbound train failed to stop on a side track to let the other train pass. That's according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

His lawsuit was filed Friday in Tarrant County civil courts. Both trains were owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Richardson is the second crew member to sue the railroad over the crash. Attorneys for the northbound train's engineer filed a lawsuit in June.

A Burlington Northern spokesman said he could not comment.
