GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- In just a weeks time, Shigella Cases in Grayson County have jumped from 79 to 88.
Amanda Ortez, with the Grayson County Health Department, says five of the new nine cases were reported in Denison. She says the bacteria is largely seen in elementary schools. That is why the health department is hoping this holiday break will help curb the illness, but when classes start back up this new year officials urge parents to keep sick children at home and make sure they have plenty of fluids.
They also say it is very important to wash your hands often.
