8-11-04 – A young child, riding in a dump truck, is dead after a rollover accident north of Sawyer in Choctaw County. It happened at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday on State Highway 147.

Sheriff’s deputies say a dump truck carrying 66-year-old Harold Koch and his grandson hit a guardrail going north on the highway, overcorrected and then swerved across the highway and rolled off the side of the road.

Seven year old Aaron Deck was riding in the truck. He suffered head and internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His grandfather has been taken to Tulsa Regional Hospital in critical condition. It took rescuers nearly an hour to free the man from the wreckage. Both victims are from Valliant, Oklahoma.

Authorities say they were not wearing their seatbelts. Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating why the truck ran off the road.
