SHERMAN, TX--A local transit company made a big announcement on Wednesday as TAPS unveiled its 200th bus to the public. In front of many local leaders and supporters, the 200th bus rolled through a large banner and out the front gates of the bus lot on Texoma Parkway.

The bus is just one out of 15 that TAPS purchased with federal stimulus funds and cost nearly $130,000. It's also one of the larger buses in the fleet to cover the six-county area and will seat 30 passengers.

"This is a large bus that will likely serve a fixed route or need for commuters to and from work. This is not the kind of bus that will pick up one person in a neighborhood, but it will serve a larger need,” says Cary Wacker, Board Chair for TAPS.

TAPS leaders say the bus is part of a growing demand for public transportation. Over the past year they've doubled their capacity to provide public transit.
