Police Chief Retiring After 33 Years in Sherman

8-12-04 - Sherman Police Chief Jerry Caylor is retiring after 33 years with the department. Caylor made the announcement today, saying he wants to devote more time to his farm.

He began his professional career as a dispatcher with Sherman PD, eventually becoming a patrol officer and working his way up through the ranks.

For the past ten years he’s served as chief. Caylor says he’s had a fulfilling career and has mixed emotions about leaving. Caylor will officially step down at the end of August.

City officials say they will promote from within, and could name Caylor’s successor as early as Friday.
