SHERMAN, TX - Habitat for Humanity is doing a bit of spring cleaning of their Saturday morning, and it will not only offer hundreds of low-priced items to the community but also raise funds to build more Habitat for Humanity Homes.

Usually Alex Ragland can be found building a house for Habitat for Humanity on the weekends, but this Friday he's doing a different kind of heavy lifting.

"I’m just trying to get other people as motivated as I am to help out and get this thing going,” said Ragland, Austin College’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter President.

He's getting the warehouse ready for the first Habitat for Humanity clearance sale that will start early Saturday morning.

"The warehouse sale is really good because it's actually involving a lot more of the Sherman-Denison community where the houses are actually built,” said Ragland.

The sale is open to the public, and Habitat for Humanity says everyone can find a good deal on new and used items, all at least 50% off.

They’re selling everything from bathtubs and toilets, microwaves, doors, light fixtures and smaller hardware items, all for one reason or another can’t be used in the Habitat for Humanity Homes.

"Perhaps they're too large or they're not the right style, or they're too old and we have to use Energy Star appliances, that sort of thing,” explained Laurie Mealy, Executive Director of the Grayson County Habitat for Humanity.

Mealy said they don’t want the items to go to waste, and sometimes they just have too many of one thing. She said this is the first of more sales to come, and she believes it’s just another way they can give back to the community in more ways than one.

"We want to sell them, we don't want to put them in the landfill naturally, so we want to make them available to the public so they can have a great deal and we can build more houses with the funds that come in,” said Mealy.

The clearance sale starts at 8:00 a.m. Saturday in the warehouse located at 602 East Brockett Street in Sherman. All proceeds go right back into the Habitat for Humanity funds.
