Hurricane Charley Pounds East Coast

8-14-04- No exact death toll from Hurricane Charley is available yet, but one county official says he hopes it will be limited to the dozens, and won't go into the hundreds.

Ten people are confirmed dead in Charlotte County, and five other storm-related deaths have been reported in other parts of Florida.
Wayne Sallade, Charlotte County's director of emergency management, says hundreds of people are still unaccounted for. He says it may take days to get a final death toll.

Sallade says two or three of Charlotte County's dead were people who had been told before Charley struck to evacuate their mobile home subdivision in Punta Gorda, but they refused.

Police say they're having trouble even getting rescue teams into
some mobile home parks because of debris blocking roads.
