SHERMAN - Sunday morning, a group of Texoma children got the opportunity to stock up on some clothes for the upcoming school year, thanks to the efforts of one local organization.
"We've been up here since 5:30," one parent said. "It's grea. I love it. I'm glad they get this chance to go and get school clothes."
New shirts, pants, and shoes were all up for grabs for 150 kids who made their way to Kohl's in Sherman for the Denison Jaycees Childspree. The event allowed economically disadvantaged children to spend $100 worth of brand new clothes during a two-hour shopping spree, for free.
"Sometimes their parents don't have all the money that they need to get their kids supplies and everything for back to school, so we really like they can get back packs here, shoes, or any of the clothing," one Jaycee said.
The kids were selected before the event by local organizations. Then they were paired up with volunteers to walk around the store and look for what they liked.
In addition to the free clothing, Kohl's took 30% off their total purchase.
