BELLS, TX--Just ten days after the Bells city election, a special meeting was called to discuss the resignation of half a dozen city officials.

Friday, May 14th, the newly elected mayor and five others resigned.
Citizens gathered at city hall Tuesday, to find out why.

The meeting drew so many people, the group was forced to move from city hall into the attached Snap Center.

Many of the items on the agenda were tabled, but the council says they took action on the two most important issues, finding a new water and sewer supervisor, and appointing a mayor pro tem.

Bells residents had a lot of questions for their elected officials,

"I want to know why city hall has been closed, why did they all resign at once," one resident asked.

But they didn't get a lot of answers.

No council members would speak on camera as to why half a dozen city officials left their positions last week.

Council member Tim Gann says the council did not appoint a new mayor, because that action item was accidentally left off of the agenda, which Gann drafted.

However, Gann was appointed mayor pro-tem and may serve for up to a year in that capacity or until the council decides whether or not to hold another mayoral election.

Recently elected council members, Chad Mulkey and Charlie Powell were assigned the duty of replacing the previous water and sewer supervisor, one of the individuals who resigned Friday.

They hope to fill that job by as early as Thursday morning.

Neighboring city mayors listened throughout the meeting and say they're ready to help if the council needs them.

"I think that since they have a young city council, they need to use some of these other cities, around here for some knowledge," Tom Bean Mayor, Sherry Howard, said.

"We cities support each other, and we want to see them progress as much as possible," Whitewright Mayor, Bill Goodson, said.

Bells residents were eager to speak up, but the option for public comments was also not listed on the agenda.
