Rescue Helicopter to be Based in Ardmore

8-20-04 - The Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service will become the first ground emergency service in the state to provide add a helicopter to its fleet. SOAS will use more than $1 million in grant money to start up the service by early next year.

They say it will shave valuable minutes off response times and allow them to reach patients in remote areas where vehicles often can’t get.

Initial estimates show SOAS will use the chopper at least 40 times a month and it will become self-sufficient within a year. The helicopter will be owned by an outside company that will also provide pilots, while SOAS will provide the EMS crew.

The helicopter will be based in Ardmore and should be flying by the first of the year.
