SAVOY, TX -- If you went to the website google to search online Friday, you may have noticed something different about their logo. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the video game, Pac-Man, google is letting people play the game on their site.

It may be a coincidence but the average age of most video game enthusiasts is 35 years old. That means that many of the 68 percent of Americans who play video games often, probably got their start playing Pac-Man, which celebrates it's 30th birthday Saturday. And if you think that video games are just for kids or just for fun, think again.

A loud group gathers around a TV set taking turns bowling on the nintendo Wii. But it's not a group of kids making all the noise, it's a group of grandparents.

"70 80 90, they have used it at all ages," said Sharon Towery with Mullican Care Center.

At Mullican Care Center in Savoy, video games are are helping keep residents active and entertained.

"It keeps us going, it gives us something to shoot for."

The video game industry has become nearly a 12 billion dollar business, eclipsing Hollywood in annual revenues.

In fact, 190 million U.S. households have some type of gaming console, and despite what you may have heard video games can even be good for you.

"It helps their balance, social skills, hand eye coordination, and cognitive function," Towery said.

Video games have become so ingrained in our culture that the Smithsonian has three games on display--one, of course is the all time leader, Pac-Man.

For the bowlers in this game, it all comes down to just one thing--fun.

"We have a lot of others activities, but this one is the most enjoyable."

While too much of anything can be a bad thing, recent studies point to increased problem solving abilities in young children who play games frequently.

Whether or not video games hurt or help, they seem to be here to stay, and by the same token no matter how old you are one simple rule of playing video games remains true for everyone.

"Sometimes they play in the hall and we have to be carefull about walking in front of the screen because they get really mad," Towery said.
