Fatal head-on crash in Garvin County
ELMORE CITY, OK - Environmental crews spent most of the day Thursday on the scene of a deadly crash earlier this morning in Garvin County that caused a tanker truck to spill fuel.

ELMORE CITY, OK - Environmental crews spent most of the day Thursday on the scene of a deadly crash earlier this morning in Garvin County that caused a tanker truck to spill fuel.
According to the Elmore City Fire Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a tanker carrying gasoline and diesel was westbound on State Highway 29 just before 5 this morning when a 1993 Chevrolet Corvette traveling east came into the westbound lane and collided head-on roughly 5 miles west of Elmore City. The car exploded on impact, and emergency crews found the driver of that vehicle, 55-year-old Don Nix of Duncan, dead at the scene.
After the collision, the tanker truck started leaking fuel into a nearby water source, Environmental crews spent the day cleaning up that fuel. Eastbound and westbound State Highway 29 were shut down for much of the day.
The driver of the tanker truck sustained minor injuries. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation also worked the accident.
