SHERMAN, TX - First responders are rolling up their sleeves to help those in need, and they're asking you to do the same. Daniel Armbruster was at the Texoma Regional Blood Center on Thursday with more on the 5th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The Battle of the Badges is an annual event where folks can show their support for either the Sherman Fire or Police Department, and help keep area blood banks full.

The event is sponsored by the Sherman Police and Fire Departments. Organizers with the Texoma Regional Blood Center say they need A-positive and A-negative blood the most. It's so important going into the Memorial Day holiday, as more people are on the roads there are more accidents, so the police and fire departments are having a little friendly competition to deal with a serious issue.

The blood drive kicked off Thursday morning and runs through Friday evening. You can donate and vote for your favorite department at one of two locations. The Texoma Regional Blood Center Bloodmobile will be at the Sherman police station Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. 6 p.m. You can also come to the Texoma Regional Blood Center on Texoma Parkway from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. tonight and tomorrow. Refreshments are provided for donors.
