THACKERVILLE, OK - investigators say they believe the town hall building in Thackerville was intentionally set on fire Monday night. Now city officials are asking for your help to find the arsonist.

The Thackerville Police Department says they believe the person responsible for the fire at the town hall building also set another fire just about a mile up the road, and while no one was hurt in either fire residents of the close-knit community say they can't help but take the act personally.

Vice mayor Rita Scott says just after 11:30 Monday night she received a call that the town hall building across the street from her house was on fire.

"I walked outside out into the road and I could see flames coming out the north side of the building," Scott says.

Scott says fire crews quickly responded and put out the flames before they were able to spread to other parts of the building, but just 30 minutes after the first fire was reported a second fire was seen just a mile up the road.

"At 12:15 somebody had set another fire right north of here by the school, ao evidently somebody was just trying to deter our fire department," Thackerville mayor Darrell Maggard says.

Thackerville Police Chief Julie Buckaloo says only grass was damaged in the second fire. An initial investigation into the town hall fire by the state fire marshal determined that a bottle filled with a gasoline oil mix accelerate, commonly known as a Molotov cocktail, was set on fire and thrown through a window, heavily damaging the north wall of the building, inside and out, and leaving the rest of the building with major smoke damage.

"It's heartbreaking to see somebody do this to a small community, a tight community like this. It's very upsetting for us," Chief Buckaloo says.

The city secretary, the police department, and the city council are still deciding where they will conduct town hall business until the building can be fixed, and Scott says until someone is caught she and other residents will be keeping a close eye on what is happening around them.

"We're hoping that whoever or if it's a whoever that it doesn't happen again. It was scary. So we're just hoping that maybe its over. But it still makes it really hard to go to sleep at night."

If you have information about the two fires last night you are asked to contact the Thackerville Police Department or the Love County Sheriff's Office.
