RAVIA, OK - Investigators are looking into the death of a 19-month-old child over the weekend. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is calling the toddler's death suspicious. Dara Downs has more.
The OSBI says they are investigating the death of 19-month-old Jason Guzman of Ravia as a suspicious death after he was brought to a local hospital in an unresponsive state over the weekend. Public information officer Jessica Brown says the toddler's mother brought the boy to the emergency room at Johnston Memorial Hospital around 11:30 Saturday night, but the boy was unresponsive and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators believe incidents leading to the boy's death could of happened at the boy's home on Pine Creek Road in Ravia, but say there are waiting on the medical examiner's report to determine a manner and cause of death.
Brown says the case is being called suspicious because there weren't any outward injuries on the boys body that would explain that could help explain why he died.
"We don't have knowledge of why he died at this point. That's why it's considered a suspicious death. Once the medical examiner does the autopsy, we'll have much more information about whether or not this was accidental, natural, or a homicide," Brown said Monday.
Brown says it could be weeks before the medical examiner's office is done with their report and says no one has been arrested in connection with the case.
