Truck Driver Survives Explosion

Video will be available shortly.

8-25-04 – An explosion in Madill rocked area businesses, but authorities say no one was hurt. A truck exploded at the Sooner Propane Building at 7:45am Wednesday. The driver of the truck was under the vehicle doing repairs when the gases in the tank ignited. He survived, saying he was protected by the undercarriage of the truck.

A small fire followed the explosion, but it was put out quickly. The Madill Fire Chief says dozens of propane tanks were stored nearby, they were not ignited.

The hot oil truck belonged to the Sparlin Hot Oil Service; they are located in the Sooner Propane building off of highway 70.

The explosion shook the windows of a nearby convenience store, even knocking ceiling tiles to the ground. Officials are investigating why the hot oil gases ignited.
