SHERMAN TX--For the past 16 years Sherman residents have made helping their fellow man an annual event, and this year at least four more organizations are joining the 30 others that take part in Great Days of Service.

While the goal of the North Texas Youth Professionals is to provide networking opportunities for young business people in the community, they are also a group that believes in community service.

"We are taking part in Great Days of Service for the second time this year.It kicks off today and runs through Saturday," said Grant Krieger.

The group is just one of many that have joined the Great days of service campaign this year.

"The north Texas young Professionals are also going to be helping with paint my number, which paints addresses curb side, that helps with 911 emergencies, and with pizza delivery as well,” said Great Days of Service organizer Sandy Garbacik.

The Campaign kicks off today with Sherman Night Out at Hawn Park and Fairview Park.

"We will have hot dogs and face painting, we will have a bounce house, there will be Frisbee golf and volley ball, all kinds of activities," said Garbacik.

Not only are there more people helping than ever before--at last count--over 500 volunteers, there are also more activities available than ever in the 16 year history of Great Days of Service, and for a broader range of people. On Friday, Life Center hospital will host the living well, aging well expo.

"You can go and there will be lots of screenings and exhibits, and lots of speakers as well," said Garbacik.

While hundreds have already volunteered, organizers say they can always find room for more.

"So you pick your specialty and pick something that you have a passion for and we will find a spot for you," said Garbacik.
