DURANT, Okla. -- An Army National Guard unit said "thank you" to the Choctaw Nation on Tuesday.
Members of the 1-180th, based out of Durant, presented Chief Greg Pyle with American and Choctaw Nation flag. The Choctaws sent care packages to the troops, hosted a send-off at their facilities, and provided buses to take soldiers to their training base.
Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Bobby Yandell says, "They gave us the gear to take with us on the deployment, so we looked at a symbolic date where we could fly it in country, and we picked Thanksgiving Day 2006 and flew it over Camp Phoenix Afghanistan, which is the main base we operated out of."
The 1-180th returned from Afghanistan in June.
