8-26-04 - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into allegations that a Bryan County jailer raped a female inmate over the weekend.

District Attorney Mark Campbell asked the OSBI to investigate, three days after the inmate made the allegation.

She told authorities on Monday that the jailer entered her cell and raped her. Investigators aren’t releasing any other details about the alleged crime.

The Bryan County Jail Authority, which oversees the jail, began an internal investigation on Monday, and fired the jailer almost immediately. The man was taken into custody, but released on Wednesday when Campbell asked the OSBI to step in.

That investigation will begin on Friday. If they find evidence of sexual misconduct, the jailer will be charged with rape, even if the sex was consensual.

The guard’s name is not being released yet because no charges have been filed.

The female inmate is still in the Bryan county jail, and will not be transferred.
