LONE GROVE, OK -- For dozens of residents in Lone Grove, the bridge on South Brock Road is a vital connection to two main roads. But for weeks the bridge has been in poor condition despite recent repairs. Now residents are asking why the bridge hasn't been properly fixed, and what the city plans to do.

"If you go across that bridge the way it was before they refilled it with gravel just last week, you could bust out a tire."

Wendy Mueller says back in April, the city of Lone Grove replaced the bridge on South Brock Road. But when the work was finished--the bridge was worse than before.

"It was kind of bumpy and you kind of had to go over to one side to go across but it wasn't near as bad as it is now," Mueller said. "I mean we've lived out this way for almost ten years and never had this much of a problem with it."

Mueller says instead of paving the bridge, the city simply laid a dirt foundation and covered it with gravel. She says construction on the bridge has been complete for six weeks, and already the city has come back twice to lay even more gravel on the heavily traveled bridge.

"I would be afraid because all of these people that drive by here speed as it is. and those guardrails that are on it the way they stick out. I would be afraid if someone had a wrecked they would fall right off into a ditch with those guardrails," said Mueller.

KXII tried to contact the city of Lone Grove about the repairs to the bridge, but our calls were not returned.

Mueller says she and other neighbors attempts to reach the city were also unanswered.

"I was unable to get ahold of anybody," Mueller said. "And of course I didn't leave a message with the clerk. But I was unable to talk to anybody."

Mueller says she plans to contact the city again and hopes they will eventually finish the bridge that they started.

"I think they should of fixed it right the first time. If they would have just paved it or put asphalt on it I think it would of lasted much longer," Mueller said. "You know we're tax payers having to pay for them to gravel it every time. And in the long run it's going to cost them more money to put gravel on it every month."
