Jail Adminstrator Resigns in Bryan County

Video will be available shortly.

8-30-04 - The Administrator of the Bryan County Jail has resigned, in the wake of a state investigation into allegations of a jailer raping an inmate.

Jail Authority board members accepted Rebecca Ward's resignation Monday, during a special meeting. She did not give a reason for the resignation, and no one on the board is commenting.

The Jail Authority took over operations at the jail in July. But last week, a jailer was fired, and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation began an inquiry into the case.

On Monday, they appointed Anna Brown, transportation officer at the jail, to temporarily take over the jail administrator position.

District Attorney Mark Campbell says the resignation is not an indication that the Jail Authority is not working, but like any newly formed organization, it needs to have the kinks worked out.

As far as the investigation, the OSBI report is expected later this week and its likely criminal charges against the jailer will follow.
