SRPINGER, OK - A 2-year-old girl drowned in an accident at a Springer residence Tuesday night.

The Carter County Sheriff's Office says a call came in about 9:15 of a possible drowning in a backyard pool at a home in the 200 block of Richland Road in Springer. A group of kids were swimming when their father went to answer the phone. When he returned, his 2-year-old daughter had fallen into the pool.

Sheriff's officials say EMTs tried to revive the toddler before she was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Ardmore, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Sheriff's Office says the incident appears to be a tragic accident at this time.
