DALLAS (AP) - A deaf man who has spent 10 years in prison for sexual assault of a child may become the latest Texas inmate to win his freedom based on a wrongful conviction.

The Dallas County District Attorney's Office is investigating whether 38-year-old Stephen Brodie is innocent of a 1990 sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl.

Police in the Dallas suburb of Richardson acknowledge that a fingerprint at the crime scene matches another man convicted of sexually assaulting a child. But they say the presence of that print on the little girl's bedroom window is a coincidence.

Police say Brodie confessed to the assault. But Brodie says he also denied it, and that his confession came under duress after 18 hours of questioning, about half without an interpreter.
