SHERMAN, TX - The Texoma Regional Blood Center is in critical need of O positive and O negative type blood. There's one man in our area who seems to be the man they can always count on when it comes to donating, no matter the demand. Rick Springer has the story.

They call it the Wall of Heroes - 5 gallons, 15 gallons, each name represents a Texoman that has gone above and beyond when it comes to donating blood.

"I think it's an honor to be on the wall because they've given, and five gallons is where it starts, and that's forty times that they've come in, so that's an accomplishment in itself," says Deedee Morehead, Director of Donor Services, at the Texoma Regional Blood Center.

There's eight pints in a gallon and one pint of blood can save three lives, but there's one Texoman that doesn't think twice about it.

Walt Butterworth has been giving blood to the Texoma Regional Blood Center since it opened in 1975 and holds the record for the most donations in the area. But to him, he's no different than anyone else.

"I didn't realize I was there. They kind of kept it from me. I don't keep count. Now I do, because I know where I'm at," says Butterworth.

"I feel we're all equal on this wall. It doesn't matter how much blood you've given. I think each one that is represented here is a life saver.

Walt has donated over 25 gallons to the blood center, and with there being 8 pints in each gallon and potentially 3 lives saved per pint. Walt has possibly affected around 615 lives.

"The figure, if you can get to twenty-five or even thirty, but that's not the purpose of what I gave for," says Walt.

Morehead says that if you come in and donate just one pint, that makes you a hero as well.

"Every drop counts in our business so we're really thankful for the people that donate."
