SHERMAN, TX - Grayson County Sheriff's investigators say they have arrested the man behind dozens of burglaries, bringing a four-month crime spree to an end.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Mathew Dean Potter, of Pottsboro, for theft of a firearm, after spotting his car on surveillance video. Potter led investigators to more than $20,000 worth of stolen items, including guns, laptop computers, GPS units, and golf clubs, among others.

All of the burglaries targeted unlocked vehicles. Authorities say you can avoid falling victim just by locking your doors.

"I wish that everybody would improve their locks on their houses, take away the knob locks, and put some dead bolts out there and lock their vehicles," Lt. David Hawley of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office says.

Investigators say they can identify at least 75 percent of the items' owners.
