9-03-04 The strike at the General Cable plant in Bonham is over. After three hours this morning, the 184 employees decided to go back to work. They have been striking for five days while union workers were neogotiating with corporate officials. They say management told them if they didn't accept a one-year contract, General Cable would hire new employees. The new contract requires eight hours of overtime each week, no chance of a pay raise, and employees will have to pay for part of their health insurance. Workers say they had no choice but to accept the contract, but they feel like they have been treated unfairly. They will go back to work Monday at midnight.
