SHERMAN, TX-- 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, and all year local troops have recognized the milestone at various events and activities.

For the past ten days, a group of 35 area scouts celebrated the Centennial on the east coast at the Boy Scout Jamboree.

"I have missed him so much and I'm so proud he's back home," Barbara Davis said of her grandson, Drew.

The boys reunited with their families after their trip out east, and returned to Texoma with a new perspective.

"Everything was amazing. It was just all first class,” Sidney Phillips of Troop 15, said. “But, the number one thing, I think everybody would say, was being on stage for the last show."

This year marked the 18th gathering of Boy Scouts from across the United States, at the Fort A.P. Hill Military Training Center in Virginia.

Thirty-five Boy Scouts from 8 local troops, represented Texas and Oklahoma's Circle 10 Council.

Scoutmaster Wade Graves said, "They went as a group, they worked as a team, and they came back as a troop, and they grew along the way. That's what Scouting is all about."

This year, Scouts had the opportunity to take a trip to New York City as well as Washington D.C., where they stopped to visit with Texas Congressman Ralph Hall.

The activities certainly gave the boys something to tell their families about, but many of them say, they're coming home with more than just memories.

"The bond that you get with these guys is amazing. It's something that will last forever," Phillips said.

The first National Jamboree was held in 1937. The next Jamboree is scheduled for 2013 in West Virginia.
