VAN ALSTYNE, TX -- A woman was critically injured after crashing her car on Highway 75 Wednesday evening.
Van Alstyne police say just after 5 pm, the woman was headed south on 75, just north of County Line Road, when she slammed into the guard rail and the car flipped once, trapping her inside. Fire crews used the jaws of life to get her out. She was flown to a Plano hospital in critical condition.
"Witnesses say that either she appeared that she had fell asleep or she had a mechanical issue," Van Alstyne Police Chief Tim Barnes said. "She started trying to over correct and when she did, she wound up into the guard rail here."
The woman's name is not being released, but police believe she may be from Richardson.
The southbound lanes were shut down for an hour and a half while crews worked to clear the scene.
Chief Tim Barnes encourages everyone to pay attention on the roads, especially during the busy holiday weekend.
