ADA, OK--- A special celebration in Ada was held last night in light of Black History Month.

Dozens of students, faculty, and alumni gathered at Ada's East Central University to celebrate 50 years of contributions to the university's Athletics.

Organizers also honored the first African American athletes of each individual sport.
Among the honorees was one of the university's first football players, Text Rollins, and Dr. Teresa Washington who was the very first black female basketball player.

The event was hosted by the office of campus life and leadership and the African American heritage committee.
