2nd Atoka Co. prison escapee this week apprehended

ATOKA, OK -- An inmate who escaped an Atoka minimum security prison Thursday has been apprehended after a short manhunt.

According to assistant warden Jerry Johnson, 34-year-old Jeremy Jenkins was caught at 1:48 p.m. approximately 2 miles north of the Howard McLeod Correctional Facility on private property.

Jenkins was returned to the facility and placed in the Segregated Housing Unit without incident, Johnson said.

Jenkins is serving an 11-year sentence on weapons & perjury convictions and was set to be released next October.

This is the second prison escape in Atoka County this week. Convicted murderer Jason Bales escaped the Mack Alford Correctional Center, a medium security prison in Stringtown, on Monday morning. He remains at large Thursday afternoon.
