ARDMORE, OK--Tonight's relay for life in Ardmore will not only be about raising awareness on cancer but remembering one of the event organizers who recently passed away.

This year's relay for life takes place from 7 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. tomorrow at Noble Stadium in Ardmore. Organizers said they expect several attendees but this year just won't be the same.

"We lost a very dear member for our team our co-chair Robbie Brooks we lost her tragically three weeks ago in an accident in lake Murray" said Tolbert.

American Cancer society community manager, Teri Tolbert, said she was good friends with Brooks for more than 20 years and will always remember Brooks passion for relay.

"Cancer touched her family and she knew firsthand the devastation this disease has on families and so it was very near and dear to her heart" said Tolbert.

Tolbert said Brooks was very involved in the community and was loved throughout.

"She was just one of those, one in a million people that you run across and it has been a great loss for all of us but were here to honor her tonight as well as the cancer survivors" said Tolbert.

Organizers said the reason it is an all night event is because cancer never sleeps and that tonight is an opportunity for everyone to remember those close to them.

"Four years ago my dad was diagnosed with lymphoma and he passed away a year and a half ago so I'm walking in his memory" said Shanna Kerley.

"We are going to do a tribute for Robbie in the beginning of ceremony if you loved Robbie you should be here" said Tolbert.

So far over 59 thousand dollars has been raised to benefit American Cancer Society.
