SHERMAN, TX -- Dozens of Austin College students are going green by going "trayless".
Tuesday students opted not to use trays during lunch in order to reduce food waste.
Organizer Sophie Higgs says typically when people use trays they fill them with food they don't end up eating.
According to Sophie Higgs, "a lot of people don't understand why not using trays reduces waste so we want to get awareness out there we want to get people to learn about reducing waste and about ways to go green."
Higgs says they weighed food waste last week and are going to compare it to this week's waste to see how much its gone down.
