Austin College students visit local elementary schools to read to children

SHERMAN, TX - Dozens of Austin College students took a break from the classroom to serve area children.

More than 20 students were paired up with first and second graders to read with them.

It's part of the Jan Serve program that encourages students to get involved in community service.

This semester they've been reading to kids at Washington Elementary and Neblett Elementary.

Catherine Stodola, a student at Austin College, said "I hope that they find it very rewarding and that if they haven't done service before that they come back and decide to do more service. We do offer a lot of different programs and they can come back and read to the kids throughout the year."
