KENEFIC, OKLAHOMA -- Durant Fire Chief Roger Joines confirms a baby is dead after a mobile home fire in Kenefic Tuesday afternoon.

The family who lived in this mobile home is grieving the loss of their 18-month-old baby, who died in this fire just after noon Tuesday.

Chief Joines said when his Durant department arrived on scene around 12:30, the home, east of Highway 22 and Highway 48, was fully engulfed.

"When we received the call, there was report there may be a child in the house. We weren't sure until we got here and then they told us there was a child in the house," Joines said.

A next door neighbor tells News 12 a family of four lived here.

A Bryan County sheriff's deputy said the rest of the family made it out safely, but required medical attention due to shock.

"We're still waiting to get some information from the family," Joines said.

Fire officials have not yet determined what caused the fire or where the fire started.

A medical examiner arrived on scene just two hours after the blaze was extinguished, but has not released any further details.

Because this is a fatal fire, the state fire marshal will continue to investigate.
